Tob'anik e.V.
About ten years ago, the Escuela de Español Juan Sisay founded a project to support children from poor families and to enable them to attend school.
Although education is officially compulsory and free in Guatemala, a lot of families cannot afford to send one or all of their children to school. The reason for this is pretty simple. In fact, about $ 120 US is needed to send one child for one year to school. These expenses include:
- "Registration fees" each year,
- school uniforms and
- materials (books, paper, pencils, etc.)
One family normally has four or five children, the average yearly income of a household in Guatemala is about 1,600 to 2,000 US-Dollar. So poverty is the reason why so many children in Guatemala do not have a real chance to gain a profound education.
The school uses a part of its own income to pay for these expenses for the children in the project.
This project is supported by Tob'anik e.V. ("tob'anik" is a Quiche word and means "to help"). The idea is very simple, the more money the project has, the more children can be supported and get a real chance to increase their chances for success in life in Guatemala.
"Tob'anik e.V." , which was foundedn in 2002 is accepted as a charitable organization by the revenue service Frankfurt (Germany) so donations are tax-deductible. We would be greatful if you would support our important work with a donation or just by "word of mouth".
